Gentle Reminders

Conceived as an antithetical response to the planned-out works that I had been making prior, the mixed-media works in this series were entirely process-driven in their creation. Being loosely composed and incorporating traditional media such as painting, drawing, and collage, I challenged myself to build these works by following my creative instinct, and to use materials that I hadn’t previously. Conceptually, each of these pieces were generated as reflections on various major life changes I was experiencing, and each incorporate a transferred photograph related to various transitional memories.

Duo Exhibition with Alexis Howard

Presented by Friday Arts Project
May 3rd - June 23rd, 2021

Gentle Reminders was composed of new works by artist couple Alexis Howard and Dylan Bannister. The exhibition highlighted the artistic and romantic partnership between these two multi-disciplinary artists based in Rock Hill, SC. Having been forged together during their time as undergraduates, Alexis and Dylan have witnessed and influenced each other’s growth both as creative individuals and as human beings. The works exhibited illustrated the differing skillsets and processes of each individual, while also emphasizing the overlap where they have affected one another. While not strictly collaborative, all of the works are the result of unending support and constructive critique, as the artists typically work concurrently.
